Herbert Fred Miller, 88, Fairbury, died at 2:55 am Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Evenglow Lodge, Pontiac.
His funeral will be at 10:00 am Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairbury with Pastor Edward Hudelson officiating. Burial will be in the South Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury with full military rites accorded by the Fairbury VFW and American Legion posts.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and 9:00 to 9:45 am Thursday at the church. The family suggests memorials be given to (SELCAS) South Eastern Livingston County Ambulance Service.
Mr. Miller was born September 27, 1929 in Yates Twp., McLean County the son of Robert C. and Helen Kathrene Burmeister Miller. He married Joyleane Ann Richie on March 4, 1956 in Campus, IL. She survives in Fairbury.
Other survivors include three sons, Eugene (Terri) Miller, Fairbury, Marvin (Darlene) Miller, Pontiac, Randall (Julie) Miller, Chenoa, six grandchildren, one step grandchildren, two step great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Bittner.
Mr. Miller served in the United States Army during the Korean War (5/30/1951 – 5/7/1953).
He lived in Yates Twp. For nearly 65 years, while also serving as tax assessor and drainage commissioner. He farmed most of his life and last helped his sons with harvest in the Fall of 2017. He was an accomplished woodworker and welder and was a member of the Fairbury VFW.
