Herbert Wiser, 88, Fairbury, died at 8:05 pm Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with Pastor Tom Krieger officiating. Inurnment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury with full military rites conducted by the Fairbury VFW and American Legion posts.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, December 30, 2013 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. The family suggest memorial offerings be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Fairview Haven Retirement Community, both in Fairbury.

Mr. Wiser was born September 26, 1925 in Ottawa, IL the son of John and Lucy Frances Downing Wiser. He married Evelyn Marie Bennett on August 4, 1946 in Fairbury, IL. She died on June 3, 2003.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia K. (Ronald) Barnes, Normal, IL; Peggy G. (Gary) Skinner, Westfield, IN; two sons, Dr. Herbert R. (Janet L.) Wiser, Hudson, IL, Jack K. (Patricia) Wiser, Fairbury, IL; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by one sister and one great granddaughter.

Mr. Wiser served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was employed by the Illinois State Highway Department of Transportation retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairbury and the VFW post #9789, Fairbury.

Herb lived by his most important belief of loving his family. This is the legacy that he has instilled in all of us left behind. He will be remembered for his kind smile, fun spirit and will be greatly missed.
