Fairbury – James D. Smith, 78, of Fairbury, passed away at 7:27pm, February 3, 2022, at OSF St. James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac.

His funeral will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. Pastor Paul Wier will be officiating.

Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.

Visitation will be held from 5-7:00pm, Tuesday, February 8, 2022, also at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Fairbury VFW.

James was born September 17, 1943, in Hardenburg, KY the son of Roy and Cova Patterson Smith. They preceded him in death.

Surviving are his two sons, Jason (Liza) Smith and Chris Smith both of Fairbury; granddaughter, Jessa Smith; and two sisters, Betty (Louis) Retter and Mary (Randy) Zimmerman both of Fairbury.

James owned and operated Dr. Vinyl in Fairbury until his retirement in 2005.

He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during Vietnam War. Where he received a Bronze Star for his service.

James was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Fairbury, Fairbury VFW, and many Car Clubs.
