Chenoa - Jay B. Peters, 68, of Chenoa, formerly of Bloomington, Illinois; passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Jay was born on April 1, 1958, in Davenport, Iowa; a son to Wayne and Virginia (Mercer) Peters. He married the love of his life, Vickie, on May 29, 2004. She survives him, along with their children: James (Jennifer) Peters of Davenport, IA; Ryan (Ashley) Boring of Forrest, IL; Nicholas (Hayley) Boring of Ellsworth, IL; and Shelbie (James) Riley of Chenoa, IL; He was a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by an estranged daughter, Jamie (Jimmy) Schumpert, one brother, Bill (Jean) Peters one sister, Sue (Eugene) Schumpert both of Davenport, IA; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Virginia Peters; one brother, Ronald Peters; his in-laws, Dave and Karen Gates; and many cherished aunts and uncles.

Jay found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed tinkering in the garage, always working on a new project or finding something to fix. He will be remembered for his love of family, his willingness to lend a hand, and the quiet happiness he found in life's simple moments.

There will be a celebration of Jay’s life at 3 pm, Friday, July 17, 2026 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa. Friends may greet the family to share condolences from 2 to 3:00pm prior to the service on Friday, also at the funeral home in Chenoa. Memorial contributions may be made to Pet Central Helps in Normal, Illinois, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the teams at OSF Hospice and OSF Palliative Care for their compassionate care, support, and kindness during this difficult time.
