John Robert Hardisty, 94 of Chenoa formerly of Gridley, passed away at 3:48 pm, Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
Funeral services will be 10am, Friday, May 12, 2017 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa; with Pastor Debbie Honegger officiating. Burial will follow at 3 pm, Friday in Glade City Cemetery, Blandinsville.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to Chenoa United Methodist Church or Advocate BroMenn Hospice, Normal.
Mr. Hardisty was born July 2, 1922 in Blandinsville; the son of Harry and Dorothy (Meriwether) Hardisty Sr. He married Dorothy Auble on June 30, 1950 in Ord, NE. His wife preceded him in death on November 23, 2000. His parents and one sister, Natalie McConnell also preceded him in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Cindy (Dan) Reynolds of St. Charles; Marcia (Paul) Blackledge of Blandinsville; one brother, Harry (Shirley) Hardisty Jr. of Tyler, TX; three grandchildren, Brieanna (Lance) Foster, Matthew and Samuel Blackledge; three great grandchildren and many loved nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hardisty was a retired school teacher at Gridley Elementary School. His next career was with the Bloomington Water Treatment Plant as a chemist. Later he worked at Bloomington YWCA and was honored for his service there.
He was an active member of Chenoa United Methodist Church and in his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his family, volunteering at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa and playing piano.
