Chenoa – John David Johnson, 70, of Chenoa, passed away at 11:14am, December 12, 2019, at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.
His funeral will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at Chenoa United Methodist Church. Pastor Debby Honegger will be officiating.
Burial will be in Chenoa Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-7:00pm, Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa.
Memorials may be made to Chenoa United Methodist Church or Chenoa Historical Society.
John was born March 3, 1949, in Bloomington, the son of Bobby and Marjorie Fulton Johnson. He married Jennifer Looney on July 25, 1976. She survives.
Also surviving her his mother, Marjorie of Normal; daughter, Katie (Peter) Lamonica Johnson of Seattle; son, John Nicholas Johnson of Chenoa; brother, Russell (Carol) Johnson of Chenoa; sister, Carol (Paul) Ummel of Saybrook; sisters-in-law, Linda Johnson of CO, Patti Looney, Ontario, and Rhonda Looney of GA.
John was preceded in death by his father, nephews, Andrew Johnson, brothers-in-law, Edward and Charles Looney; and brother Warren Johnson.
He attended Chenoa public schools and received a B.A. in History of University of Illinois and M.A. in History from Illinois State University. John was an AFS student to Finland in 1966. He lived with the Erik Moring family and enjoyed many visits back to Finland over the years.
John was raised in the Chenoa Presbyterian church but attended Chenoa United Methodist Church in later years.
John enjoyed talking and spent many hours at coffee with his buddies at Chenoa Family Restaurant. He was passionate about walking around Chenoa and visiting with friends. He never knew a stranger.
He was loved his family and will be missed my many.
