John "Jack" Poppe, 63, of Colfax, died at 5:40 P.M., Saturday, December 11, 2010 at his residence in Colfax.
Cremation rites have been accorded with a memorial service to be held 11 am on Friday, December 17, 2010 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax with Pastor Rachel Stockle officiating. A private family Inurnment will take place at a later date.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 pm, Thursday, December 16, 2010 and 10 to 10:45 am prior to the service on Friday also at the memorial home in Colfax.
"Jack" was born on September 29, 1947 in Fairbury, the son of Harry and Ruby (Meyer) Poppe. His parents preceded him in death.
Survivors include three brothers; Loren (Joy) Poppe, Colfax; Larry (Cheryl) Poppe, Colfax; Donald (Kathy) Poppe, Normal; two sisters; Donna Poppe, Colfax; Sandy (Tom) Cuddihy, Bellevue, IL; nine nieces and nephews; Lori (Ben) Hiltabrand, Janice (Jeff) Edwards, Dena Poppe, Beth (Eric) Feit, Brad (Teresa) Poppe, Darci (Mike) Kirwan, Jennifer Poppe, Jim (Mollie Black) Rolison, Jared Poppe and ten great nieces and nephews.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to Eastern McLean County Ambulance Service, Colfax.
"Jack" was a 1965 graduate of Octavia High School, Colfax; a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Colfax; and was an over the road truck driver for over 42 years. He never knew a stranger and accepted people for who they were. His nieces and nephews, young and old, meant the world to Jack. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
