Obituary

Chenoa: John A. Reimer, 98, of rural Chenoa passed away at 7:55 am, Friday, December 8, 2006 at Meadows Mennonite Home, Meadows, IL.

John was born January 11, 1908 in Tellentschi Crimea, Russia, a son to Johann And Katherine Reimer. He immigrated to the United States in November of 1923 to the home of the late Alvin Roth of Morton, IL. John worked on farms during the spring, summer and fall and attended school during the winter months in Morton and Eureka. He became a U.S. Citizen in 1931 and married Lorene Kathryn Heiser on January 10, 1932, in Eureka. They would have been married seventy-five years this coming January 10, 2007

Surviving are his wife, Lorene Reimer, Meadows; four sons, Robert (Janice) Reimer, Carlock; Jack(Jeanette) Reimer, Gridley; John J.(Kay ) Reimer, Normal; and James (Ellen) Reimer, Lexington; two daughters, Linda (Roger) Clemmons, Bloomington; and Janice (Edward) Kiper, LeRoy; nineteen grandchildren, Susan Sifford, Sandra Wilson, Pam Rosa, Patricia Reimer, Judy Nafziger, Julie Zimmerman, Jay Reimer, Janet Reeser, Jeff Reimer, Roger Reimer, Dennis Reimer, Sharon Dickinson, Lisa Clemmons Stott, Amy Clemmons, David Kiper, Laura Kiper, Brian Reimer, Jon Reimer, and Michelle Swierczek; twenty-eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, one brother, three sisters and two granddaughters preceded him in death. He was the last surviving member of his Reimer family.

John and Lorene first farmed six years near Eureka and then in 1938 they moved to a farm near Washington, Illinois, and later moved in 1957 to their own farm near Lexington. John farmed for over forty years, loving the land, the out of doors and his herd of Angus cattle. He was a charter member of the Central Illnois Angus Breeders Associations and a member of the McLean County Farm Bureau. John and Lorene remained on the farm in Lexington until 1975, when they moved to the Meadows Retirement Village. During their retirement they wintered in Sarasota, Florida, where John enjoyed playing golf and shuffleboard.

He was a member of the Meadows Mennonite Church and served as a trustee for a number of years.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at the Meadows Mennonite Church, Meadows, with the Rev. John Heyerly and Rev. Steve Estes officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Meadows Mennonite Church and for one hour at the church prior to the funeral. Burial will be at Lexington Cemetery, rural Lexington. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa is in charge of arrangements.

John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
