Obituary

John B. Reis II, 91, Fairbury, died at 8:55 pm Monday, December 15, 2014 at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, December 20, 2014 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Fairbury with Fr. Scott Archer officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Fairbury with full military rites accorded by the Fairbury VFW and American Legion posts.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, December 19, 2014 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 pm. The family suggest memorials be given to Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury or the American Diabetes Association.

Mr. Reis was born August 6, 1923 in Pontiac, IL the son of Joseph Patrick and Zoa Genevieve Personette Reis. He married Rose Anne Boland on June 6, 1953 in Rutland, IL. She survives in Fairbury, IL.

Other survivors include 4 sons, John B. (Jan) Reis III, Fairbury, IL; Patrick J. (Jeannie) Reis, Fairbury, IL; Michael W. (Lynn) Reis, Forrest, IL; Timothy G. Reis, Fairbury, IL; 1 daughter, Geri A. Reis-Garcia, Fairbury, IL; 20 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by 2 brothers, 1 sister, 1 grandson, John B. Reis IV, and 1 granddaughter, Elizabeth Guo Dan Reis.

Mr. Reis was a graduate of Fairbury Twp. High School. He attended the University of Notre Dame and later Illinois State University. He served in the United States Navy and was the Fairbury Postmaster of 28 years. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic church, Fairbury, a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, belonged to the retired Postmaster Association, a lifetime member of the American Legion John Joda post#54, Numismatic Society, enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, member of the Fairbury Music Club, played football for the Forrest Comets and enjoyed entertaining others with his music, magic and comedy show.
