John A. Schopp, 81 of Chenoa, died at 9:20 am, Thursday, March 26, 2015 at his residence in Chenoa.
His funeral mass will be held at 11 am, Monday, March 30, 2015 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chenoa, with Father Carl LoPresti officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, rural Chenoa with full military rites conducted by the Chenoa American Legion and VFW posts.
A rosary will be recited at 9am, Monday followed by a visitation with the family until the time of service also at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chenoa. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Schopp was born June 13, 1933 in Chenoa, the son of Lewis and Mary (Dougherty) Schopp. He married Marilyn Splear on June 9, 1956 in Pontiac. His wife Marilyn survives in Chenoa.
Also surviving are three sons, Michael (Sherry) Schopp of Chenoa; Stephen (Debbie) Schopp of Odell; Thomas Schopp of Chenoa; one daughter; Janice (Tim) Crawford of Bloomington; and nine grandchildren, J.J. (Mindy) Schopp, Andy, Kelsey, Ashley and Lindsey Schopp, Katie, Joe, Mary Lynn and Anna Crawford.
His parents, 4 brothers and 4 sisters preceded him in death.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chenoa.
John was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chenoa; Knights of Columbus, Chenoa Fire Dept., and the Chenoa VFW Post #8350. John served our country in the US Army during the Korean War.
