J ohn Traub Sr., 83, of Fairbury, passed away at 6:10 pm, Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Apostolic Christian Church of Bloomington with the ministers of the church officiating. Burial will be in Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery of Graceland in Fairbury.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 pm, Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury; and 9 to 9:45 am, on Wednesday prior to the funeral at the church in Bloomington. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Prairie Lands Foundation, Fairbury, SELCAS or Fairbury Fire Dept.
Mr. Traub was born July 12, 1935 in Fairbury; a son to John George and Mary Leona (Zehr) Traub. He married Bonita Stein in 1955 in Sibley. His wife, Bonnie survives in Fairbury. His parents, two sisters, Ida Lou Gundy, Mary Mae Traub and one grandson Christopher Leman preceded him in death.
Survivors include one son, John C. (Dede) Traub Jr., Fairbury; two daughters, Debra (Steve) Roach, West Palm Beach, FL; DiAnn (Charles) Leman, Niota, TN; four grandchildren, Abbi Leman, John J. (Kristin) Traub, Marta (Kevin) Collins and Ben Traub, five great grandchildren, one brother, Harvey (Barbara) Traub, five sisters, Dorothy Martin, Ruth (Jeff) Streitmatter, Kathryn Honegger, Evelyn Saal, and Marjorie (Bruce) Leman brother in-law, Gary Gundy.
John was a 1953 graduate of Fairbury-Cropsey High School where he enjoyed participating in the basketball program. He then started his life-long farming endeavor in the Fairbury area later to be shared with his son and grandsons. In 1963 he was the recipient of the "Outstanding Young Farmer's Award".
He had a real-estate brokerage for over 40 years specializing in Agricultural properties. John was one of the founding members of the Prairie Lands Foundation in Fairbury and was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church of Bloomington. His quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
