Obituary
John William Ziegenhorn, 90, Peoria, AZ and formerly of Fairbury died at 8:45 pm Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Desert Winds, Peoria, AZ.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with Pastor Tom Krieger officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury where full military rites will be conducted by the Fairbury VFW and American Legion posts.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday also at the memorial home. The family suggest memorials be given to the charity of their choice.
Mr. Ziegenhorn was born March 2, 1923 in Fairbury, IL the son of Aaron F. and Nettie Ramseyer Ziegenhorn. He married Megan Coleman on June 6, 1945 in Cardiff, South Wales, Great Britain. She preceded him in death on July 25, 2011.
Surviving are four sons: David Ziegenhorn, Ft Worth, TX; Stephen (Leann) Ziegenhorn, Peoria, AZ; John (Carolyn) Ziegenhorn, Lake Elsinore, CA; Gary (Rhonda) Ziegenhorn, Seville, OH; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by one infant son, two sisters and two brothers.
Mr. Ziegenhorn served in the US Army during WWII (1/29/1943 – 3/7/1946) obtaining the rank of T-4 Sergeant. He formerly owned and operated Ziegenhorn & Sons Inc., Fairbury. He was a lifetime member of the John Joda American Legion post #54 serving as commander in 1951, Chef De Gare – 1955, the Fairbury VFW post #9789, Knoll Lodge, and the Elks Lodge.
