Joyce J. (Trachsel) Rhoda, 79, of Chenoa passed away at 6:48 pm Saturday, May 24, 2008 at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal after a courageous battle with leukemia.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, May 30, 2008 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Chenoa with the Rev. Jerry Koch officiating. Burial will be in Chenoa Cemetery. A celebration of Joyce's life will be 4:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Chenoa. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Rhoda was born February 9, 1929 in Troy, IA the daughter of Merle and Nina Chaplin Trachsel. She married Franklin L. Rhoda June 26, 1949 in Chenoa. He preceded her in death on January 29, 2003.
Surviving is one daughter, Rachel (Darrell) Ifft, Chenoa, one son Kyle Rhoda, Tempe, AZ, and four grandchildren, Brittany, Chelsie, Trevor and Tanner Ifft.
She is preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa and two brothers, Roy and James Trachsel.
Joyce taught in the Chenoa school system before retiring to raise her family. She enjoyed wintering in Arizona, playing bridge, reading and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Chenoa and the Troy Academy and Historical Society, Troy, IA.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Bethesda Lutheran Home or to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Chenoa.
