Hopkinsville, KY – Kenneth H. Harmet, 90, of Hopkinsville, KY, passed away at 5:25pm, June 21, 2015 at Arba Care Center of Bloomington.
Cremation has been accorded. There will be no services. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth was born on August 1, 1924, and raised in Oak Park. After graduation from Oak Park and River Forest High School, Ken joined the United States Navy and fought in WWII in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Santa Fe (CL 60). The Santa Fe saw action in many battles, but is likely most remembered for pulling alongside the stricken carrier USS Franklin to aid survivors and fight fires. After completing his Navy service, Ken went back to school and received his Bachelors, Masters, and PhD in Biological Science. After a brief stint as a high school teacher, Ken joined the faculty at Northern Illinois University, where he taught Biology and Plant Physiology for over 30 years. In his retirement years he and his wife traveled extensively and enjoyed country living. He is survived by his brothers, wife and children.
