Obituary

Cooksville - Kenneth W. Smith, 79, of Cooksville died October 6, 2007 at 5:35AM at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 8, 2007 from 5-7:00PM at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax. Funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at 10:30AM at Cooksville Union Church, Cooksville. Mark Marshall will be officiating. Burial will be in Wiley Cemetery, Colfax.

Memorials may be made to Cooksville Union Church or Wiley Cemetery.

Kenneth was born September 21, 1928 the son of H.A. and Nora Cagley Smith. They preceded him in death.

He married the love of his life Betty Norton on June 17, 1951 in Cooksville. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Amy (Gary) Butler of Chenoa and Gail (Ken) Rowley of ElPaso; Grandchildren, Darin (Jennifer) Butler, Daniel (Ashley Todd) Butler, and Loni Rowley; Step-Grandchildren, Stacey (Jamie) Whitwood and Jacque Rowley; One Great-Grandchild, Jakob and three Step-Great-Grandchildren, Tyler, Alek, and Brian.

One sister Guylan (Jerry) Simpsen of Bloomington; two brothers, Robert Smith of Ellsworth and Virgil (Helen) Smith of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Kenneth was a farmer in the Cooksville area, worked many years for the Blue Mound Township and was a co-owner of an ARCA and USAC stock car with his son-in-law Ken. He was a member of the Cooksville Union Church and past member of ARCA and USAC. Kenneth also was a volunteer fireman for the Cooksville Fire Dept.

Kenneth and Betty have spent the last 30 years wintering in Daytona Beach, FL. They traveled in their motor home and enjoyed their campground friends in Daytona Beach.
Kenneth loved and was loved by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He followed every sporting event they were involved in. Kenneth was a member of the Chenoa Sports Booster Club where he and Betty were awarded for the many events they attended. Kenneth was especially loved by the boys of the Chenoa Class of 1997.

Kenneth never knew a stranger of the many people he has met from all over the country through camping and racing.

He will truly be missed by his family and friends.
