Obituary
Leila "Mardelle" Zook, 87, recently of Cleburne, TX; formerly of Chenoa passed away at 3:55am, Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Community Hospice of Texas, Cleburne, TX.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Chenoa Cemetery, Chenoa with Pastor Don Crittenden officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Friday, May 25, 2012 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa.
Mardelle was born December 18, 1924 in Lexington, IL; the second daughter of Willie and Leila (McKeown) Ralston. She attended country schools in the Lexington area before graduating from Lexington High School in 1942.
Mardelle was employed by State Farm for several years. She married Wayne Zook on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1945 in Alexandria, LA; where Wayne was stationed during his military service. The couple lived there only a few months until Wayne was ordered overseas.
After Wayne was discharged from the Army Air Force, the couple first made their home and farmed near Lexington. In 1950 they moved to the Hayslip farm near Chenoa and farmed there for over 35 years. Wayne passed away on December 31, 2011.
Survivors include one sister, Maxine Scarbeary of Normal; her four children, Dennis (Janie) Zook, Barbara Elaine both of Cleburne, TX; Sharon Mitchell of Gilbert, AZ; David Zook of Kathleen, GA; seven grandchildren, Douglas, TX; Shannon, IL; Jennifer, OK; Mike, WA; Rick, IL; Melissa, AL; Clayton, MD; and five great grandchildren.
Mardelle was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Chenoa. She taught Sunday school in the youth department for many years and was also active in the Women's Association. An active member of the South Chenoa Circle, she continued membership even after leaving the Chenoa area, participating until the circle disbanded in 2007.
The family will always remember Mardelle for her sewing talents, handcrafted Christmas items, and particularly the lovely quilts she stitched. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who made a home where all were welcome and joy and laughter were the norm.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be directed to American Cancer Society or 2nd Presbyterian Church of Bloomington.
