Leona Elfreida Sutter, of Fairbury, 95, died at 4:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2008 at Heritage Manor, Colfax.
Her funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with the Rev. Charles McDonald officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.
She was born on a farm near Fairbury on May 25, 1912. Leona was the daughter of Jonathan and Gertrude (Stortz) Munz. She married John E. Sutter on Feb. 25, 1941. He died on Dec. 7, 1976.
Leona attended grade school at the Temple School south of Fairbury and graduated from Fairbury High School in 1930. She worked as a housekeeper during the depression years and in 1938 she began working as a telephone operator in Fairbury. After her marriage Leona lived on the family dairy and egg farm east of Fairbury until her husband John's death when she moved to S. Fourth Street in Fairbury, where she lived until she entered Heritage Manor, Colfax in 2007.
Leona is survived by her two sons, Jim (Kay) Sutter of Fairbury, and Bob (Peggy) Sutter of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren, Mary Sutter of Cleveland, Ohio; Marcy (Jason) Knauer of Fairbury; Tom (Stacey) Sutter of Rochester, NY; Nathan (Adriane) Sutter, of Fair Oaks, CA; and Jinny Sutter of Chandler, AZ; and three great-grandchildren, Caleb and Tyler Knauer of Fairbury; and Sadie Lynn Sutter of Rochester, NY. Also surviving are two sisters, Viola Goembel, and Mary Ann (John) Lorch, both of Fairbury.
Her two brothers, Jonathan and Otis Munz preceded her in death.
Leona was a devoted farm wife, mother and grandmother who spent her life tirelessly working to make a better life for those dearest to her. She will be greatly missed.
The family suggests memorials be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
