Obituary

Apache Junction, AZ: LeRoy H. Fields, 76 of Apache Junction, AZ formerly of Chenoa, died Monday, June 23, 2008 in Phoenix, AZ.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm, Friday, June 27, 2008 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa. His funeral service will be 10:30 am, Saturday, June 28, 2008 also at the memorial home in Chenoa with Pastor Jerry Koch officiating the service. Burial will follow in Chenoa Cemetery, Chenoa. A separate memorial service will be held in Arizona at a later date.

Mr. Fields, a retired contractor from Illinois, was born September 9, 1931 in Iuka, IL the son of Floyd and Emily (Stanford) Fields. He married his wife of 53 years, Darlene Fields, formerly Darlene Hoerner of Pontiac, IL on August 6, 1955 in Eppards Point Twp. She survives in Apache Junction, AZ.

Other survivors include two sons; Rick (DiAnn) Fields, Normal; and Ron Fields, Surprise, AZ; one daughter; Sally (David) Dehority, Gilbert, AZ. LeRoy has five grandchildren, Adam and Brooke Fields, and Amber, Nevada and Branden Dehority. LeRoy is also survived by his stepmother Clara Singer of Phoenix, AZ; and one brother, James (Rosie) Fields of Westville, IN.

LeRoy started Chenoa Builders and Chenoa Home Supply in the 1960's. Chenoa Builders was in operation until 1984. He had a major role in fund raising and construction of the Chenoa Community Pool facility. Other civic service included donation of land and labor for Boys Scouts of America building. Furthermore, he built Chenoa High School baseball dugouts. LeRoy built over 200 homes in central Illinois. He worked as paper carrier for 20 years for the Arizona Republic and named carrier of the year in 1999. LeRoy was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and worked as a silversmith for a hobby.
