Fairbury – Leroy Schmidtgall, 81, of Fairbury, passed away at 5:45am, July 25, 2014 at Advocate Bromenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.

Funeral will be held at 11:00am, Monday, July 28, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Fairbury. Pastor Steve Anderson will be officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.

Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00am, also on Monday at the Church.

Memorials may be made to the Fairbury Baptist Church.

Duffy-Pils Memorial Home in Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.

Leroy was born February 5, 1933 in Fairbury the son of Carl and Emma Aberle Schmidtgall.

He married Mary Cordelia Wheaton on August 2, 1952 in Fairbury. She survives.

Also surviving are his daughter, Debra Kay Henson of Fairbury; son, Johnny Carl (Kathy) Schmidtgall of Fairbury; grandchildren, Jamie (Peter) Foster, Jeremy Henson, Nicholas (Rachael) Henson, and Michelle Schmidtgall; great-grandchildren, Jacob Foster, Zavier Henson, Natalie, Nadia, and Noelle Henson, Zachary, Evan, and Isiaha Flores, Jude Meints, and Deseree Vohwinkel; and sisters, Florence Herda, Alice (Leroy) Barnes, Lorene Davis, Lucille Drager, Erma Svoboda, and Marjorie (Ralph) Kuntz.

Leroy was preceded in death by son, Wayne Leroy Schmidtgall; two sisters, Wilma Jean and Carolyn Hermann; and brother Silas Schmidtgall.

Leroy retired from Livingston Stone Quarry after 35 years.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairbury.

Leroy had a great passion for horses which was shared with his wife throughout their marriage.

Leroy was a wonderful and dedicated husband, father and grandfather.

His unique sense of humor and story telling abilities will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
