Colfax – Lester Adelbert "Butch" Sutton, Jr, 74, of Colfax, passed away at 6:42am, February 24, 2019, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
His funeral will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax.
Burial will be in Wiley Cemetery, Colfax. Where military honors will be performed by the Davis-Kerber American Legion Post, Colfax.
Visitation will be held from 5-8:00pm, Wednesday, February 27, 2019, also at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Blue Ridge Knights Football Program or Mamaw's Sunshine Fund, Miami Valley Hospital Foundation, Dayton, OH.
Butch was born November 29, 1944, in Byron, MI the son of Lester Adelbert and Marion Elizabeth Pierce Sutton.
He married Mary Jean "Jeannie" Smith on March 6, 1965, at Camp Pendelton, CA. She died September 14, 2004.
Surviving are his two daughters, Mikki (Dave) Clancy of Springboro, OH and Kathy (Bob) Barnes, Colfax; two sons, Skip (Wendy) Sutton and Bobby (Amy) Sutton both of Colfax; grandchildren, Aubri (Alex) Bourge, Jenn (Luke) Laws, Zach Barnes, Kaitlyn (Tyler Shain) Martin, Matt (Morgan Grunloh) Barnes, Kerry Jeanne (Aaron Bunn) Sutton, Jakob and Kendall Sutton; and great-grandson, Oliver Bourge; sisters, Beverly (Jack) Potter of Wyoming, MI and Nancy (John) Prussner of Edwardsburg, MI; and brother, Pete (Cathy) Sutton of FL;
He was preceded in death by his parents, cousin, Bill Sutton and brother-in-law, Dennis Burkhardt.
Butch was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he was a staff sergeant serving from 1963-1969. During this time he served two tours in Vietnam. He received the Vietnam Service medal with two stars, Air Crewman Insignia with three stars, Republic of Vietnam Medal, Air Medal with one star, and National Defense Service Medal.
After his service in the military, Butch was an officer for the Michigan State Police with the Shiawassee County Sheriff Department.
Butch was a meat cutter for Kroger for 14 years and retired from Schnucks after 22 years.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Colfax, Knights of Columbus, lifetime member of the VFW in Chenoa and member of the Davis-Kerber American Legion, Colfax.
