Bloomington - Lora S. Oyer, 94, of Bloomington, formerly of Normal and Chenoa, passed away at 4:55 a.m. on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Westminster Village in Bloomington.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the Mennonite Church of Normal, 805 South Cottage Avenue, Normal, IL. A luncheon reception will follow immediately after the service. Memorials may be made to Bluffton University, J.S. and Sara Schultz Scholarship Fund, 1 University Drive, Bluffton, OH 45817. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home in Chenoa is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lora was born on October 17, 1921 in Clara City, Minnesota, a daughter of Jacob S. and Sara Bargen Schultz. She married Russell L. Oyer on June 24, 1944 in Bluffton, Ohio.

Surviving is her husband, Dr. Russell Oyer of Bloomington; three sons, Frederick S. (Darlene) Oyer of Inverness, Rodney A. (Susan) Oyer of Arlington, TX and Joel T. (Linda) Oyer of Tyler, TX; 5 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Harold B. Schultz and Karl V. Schultz.

Lora, a lifelong Mennonite served as a music minister/choir director in two churches for more than 40 years. She served in leadership roles in the women's mission and service organizations of the Central District Conference and the General Conference Mennonite Church. She also served as a Trustee of Bluffton University and in leadership roles in every community in which she lived. She was a flower gardener, par excellence, master baker and a master in the art of fine cookie creations.

Lora was a loving wife for over 71 years, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, she will be dearly missed.
