Loren "David" Wiley, of Fairbury, IL, passed away peacefully at Carle BroMenn Medical Center, Normal, IL; on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024 at the age of 80, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on January 31st 1944 in Galesburg, IL to Loren Allen and Pauline Agnes (Eckman) Wiley. David, beloved husband, father, and coach lived a life defined by his unwavering love for his family, passion for sports, and dedication to coaching. He will be remembered fondly for his kindness, guidance, and the positive impact he made on countless lives both on and off the court.
He graduated from Abingdon High School and later Eureka College and went on to work as a teacher/coach for 38 years, touching the lives of all who knew him. He was a constant supporter of his kids and grandkids and rarely missed a sporting event or banquet.
David is survived by his beloved spouse of 56 years, Cathy Lynne Wiley and 4 children; Carrie Zwicky, Andy (Tracy) Wiley, Josh (Karen) Wiley, and Keli (RJ) Gall along with 8 grandkids which include Heather, Brooke, Jacey, Carter, Tristan, Laney, Mikayla, and Luke. He is also survived by 5 great grandkids and 3 sisters which include Marlene (David) Simeck, Pam (Leroy Roberts) Wiley, and MaryLynn Wiley Plue.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Nathan Zwicky.
There will be a visitation with the family from 9:00 am to 10:45 am prior to a celebration of David's life on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 11:00 am at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury; with Pastor Daryl Evans officiating. A lifelong friend (Bruce Darnall) will be speaking at the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Galesburg Rescue Mission, a cause close to David's heart.
David may have left this world, but he will never leave the hearts of those who knew him. His spirit, anchored in faith, continues to uplift and guide us.
