Lyle R. Sutton, 86, Mahomet and formerly of Colfax died at 9:44 am Monday, October 6, 2008 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am Friday, October 10, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Colfax with Fr. Carl LoPresti officiating. Burial will be in Wiley Cemetery, Colfax with full military rites conducted by the Davis-Kerber American Legion, Colfax. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax with a Devine Mercy Chaplet service at 3:45pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be directed to the Lyle R. Sutton Scholarship fund, c/o Ridgeview School District, Colfax, IL.

Mr. Sutton was born June 7, 1922 in El Paso, IL the son of James R. and Maude Stephens Sutton. He married Lois B. Parkhouse on March 17, 1944 in El Paso. She survives at 2707 CR 350 East, Mahomet, IL 61853.

Also surviving is one daughter, Linda (Sia) Rauch, Mahomet, four sons, Jim (Adrienne) Sutton, Mahomet, Dick (Jeanne)Sutton, Bloomington, IL, Bob (Cindy) Sutton, Atlanta, IL, Bill (Connie) Sutton, Lexington, IL, three brothers, Don Sutton, Minnesota, Bob Sutton, Troy, Ohio, Wayne Sutton, Colfax, IL, eleven grandchildren, three step grandson, thirteen great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

Mr. Sutton was a 1941 graduate of El Paso High School. He served in the US Navy during WW II (1/13/1942-11/9/1945). After the service he attended Eureka College graduating with his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950. He served as principal, coach and teacher at Arrowsmith school district. He later taught and coached at the grade school and junior high school at the Octavia school district, Colfax. Mr. Sutton retired in 1980.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Colfax and was a die hard Cub fan who never minded waiting until next year. He cherished his fishing trips with family and friends to his property in Canada.
