Mabel Clarice Melvin, 95, a resident of Evenglow Inn, Pontiac and formerly of Fairbury died at 8:15 pm Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Evenglow Inn, Pontiac.
A celebration of life service will be at 11:00 am Monday, May 4, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, Fairbury with the Rev. Charles McDonald and the Rev. David Deal officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm Sunday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and 10:00 to 10:45 am Monday at the church.
The family suggests memorials be give to the First United Methodist Church; Dominy Memorial Library, both in Fairbury; OSF Hospice of Central IL or Evenglow Inn, both in Pontiac or SELCAS, Fairbury.
Mrs. Melvin was born June 4, 1913 in Willow Shade, KY the daughter of Bishop Marvin and Laura Frazier Jarvis. She married Arthur Roy Melvin on January 18, 1936 in Forrest, IL. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1982.
Surviving is one son, Arthur Marvin (Bernadette) Melvin, Albuquerque, NM, one daughter, Carol Lee (Jerry) Schahrer, Crossville, TN, seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, one grandson and one great granddaughter.
Mrs. Melvin was a homemaker and formerly owned and operated with her husband Melvin's Motel, Fairbury. She was a member of the First Untied Methodist Church, Fairbury; International Club; United Methodist Women; Browning Club and the Garden Club.
She was a very loving and caring person that enjoyed helping others and will be missed by all her family and friends. She was a blessing to our lives.
