Obituary

Margaret Alice "Peggy" Bertram, 68, Forrest passed away at 2:05 pm Saturday, June 30, 2007 peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family.

A funeral mass will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at St. James Catholic Church, Forrest with Father Doug Hennessy and Father BK Tran officiating. Burial will be at Forrest Twp. Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 pm Monday at St. James Parish Center, Forrest with a rosary to be recited at 8:00 pm. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bertram was born October 3, 1938 at Bloomington, IL, the daughter of William E. and Margaret English Bennington. She married George Wesley Bertram on June 18, 1960 at Bloomington. He survives at Forrest.

Also surviving are two sons, William Henry (Georgia) Bertram, Pontiac, Robert Michael (Stacie) Bertram, Peoria, two daughters, Vicki (John) Stidl, Tampa, FL and Samantha Bertram, Peoria. Eight grandchildren, George Wesley Bertram, Maireade Bertram, Ruth Bertram, Sarah Elizabeth Bertram, William Henry Bertram II, Daniel Jordan, Marie Jordan, and Emily Jordan. Also surviving is one great grandson, Gabriel Jordan, one sister, Patricia (Bennington) Jones, and one brother, James Michael Bennington.

She is preceded in death by a brother William John Bennington.

Peggy was baptized at Holy Trinity Parish in Bloomington, IL. She grew up in Bloomington and was very active in the Girl Scouts. She was a 1956 graduate of Holy Trinity High School, Bloomington and in 1960 she received her Bachelors in Education from Illinois State University. She taught Kindergarten and Second grade with Forrest-Strawn-Wing school district (later Prairie Central school district) and Head Start retiring from teaching in 1986.

She was an active, long-term parishioner with St. James Catholic Church, Forrest. A member of the Forrest Twp. Library Board, St. James Altar and Rosary Society, Fairbury Garden Club, and MADD.

Peggy extended her family, having hosted several AFS students, including Helen Keogh of Australia, Voula Phillipi of Greece, and foster child Quang Vu of South Vietnam, now a resident of Virginia Beach, VA. She enjoyed her family, friends, walking, gardening, reading, traveling, and teaching.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Forrest Twp. Library or OSF Hospice, Pontiac.
