Maria Friedmansky, 92, of Bloomington formerly of Chenoa, passed away at 4:40 pm, Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Heartland Health-Care Center, Normal.
Her funeral Mass will be held at 10 am, Monday, January 13, 2014 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chenoa; with Father Carl LoPresti officiating. Interment will follow in Chenoa Twp. Cemetery. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa is assisting the family with arrangements.
Visitation will be one hour prior to her service on Monday, also at the Church in Chenoa. In lieu of flowers, since all three of her sons served in the military the family requests that memorials be directed to Wounded Warrior Project, 230 W Monroe Street, Suite 200, Chicago, IL 60606.
Mrs. Friedmansky was born April 4, 1921 in Romania, the daughter of Jakob and Rosalee (Mandeck) Kerner. She married Peter Friedmansky Sr. on May 29, 1939 in Romania. Her husband preceded her in death on April 14, 1979.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, three sisters, one son, Jakob "Jake" Friedmansky and daughter in-laws, Denise and Sandra Friedmansky.
Survivors include her children, John Friedmansky of Chenoa; Pete (Verna)Friedmansky Jr. of Lexington and Helen (H. Donald) Lush of Bloomington; ten grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Peter, Maria and their four children came to America in 1952. Eventually, settling in Chenoa in 1953, Maria was active in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chenoa.
Maria was known for her cooking and baking, especially her pies, if you came to her house, you would never leave hungry. She loved to garden, quilt and knit afghans. Her garden was a grand thing to see and brought her great joy.
