Marvin Wayne Wahls, 91, of Chenoa passed away at 6:02 p.m. Sunday, (December 31, 2017) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
Per his request cremation rites have been accorded and a private family service with the comingling of his ashes and the ashes of his deceased wife, Libby, will take place in Chenoa Township Cemetery later this spring when all the family can gather. Visitation with friends and family will follow that service.
The family suggests that memorial contributions left in Marvin's name be directed to the Southeast Livingston County Ambulance Services (SELCAS).
Marvin was born July 27, 1926, in Fairbury, IL, the son of Lena Schultze Wahls and Elmer Wahls. He married "the girl across the street who chased him home with a broom," Elizabeth Streid. They were friends from the time he was 3 years old. They married on June 18, 1950, in Chenoa. Marvin and Libby were married 67 years.
Marvin is survived by sons Richard (Marcia), Lexington, and Pastor Douglas (Patty), Hayti, Missouri, and daughter-in-law, Barb Wahls, Chenoa; grandchildren Scott (Ann Marie) Wahls, Steve (Annie) Wahls, Suzie (Leo) Bong, David (Magdalena) Wahls, and Kalli (Kevin) Wahls-House; and seven great grandchildren.
His wife, Libby; one son, Daniel Wahls; his parents; a sister, Evelyn Wahls Jackson; and a brother, Harold Wahls, preceded him in death.
Marvin graduated from Chenoa High School and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois in business. He served in the Pacific during World War II. He owned and operated Wahls Apiaries for 25 years. He was a past member of the American Beekeeping Federation, an elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Chenoa, a member of the American Legion, and a lifetime member of the VFW of Chenoa, and a lifetime member of the Elks. Marvin enjoyed dividing his time the past 35 years between Illinois and Florida. He enjoyed working outdoors only interrupted by times when the Cubs were playing.
