Obituary

Fairbury – Maurice P. Sutter, 84, of Fairbury, passed away May 29, 2010 at 9:40am at St. John's Hospital, Springfield.

Funeral will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at First United Methodist Church in Fairbury. The Rev. Charles McDonald will be officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.

Visitation for Maurice will be held from 4-7:00pm on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.

Maurice was born May 31, 1925 in Fairbury the son of Edward and Annis Phillips Sutter.
He married Elva Mae Haab on October 28, 1944 in Pontiac. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Peggy (Joe) Mehrkens of Pontiac, Roger (Kathi) Sutter of Pontiac, and Paul (LuAnne) Sutter of Fairbury; grandchildren, Mark (Kim) Mehrkens, Brad (Kara) Mehrkens, Nicole (Matt) Mehrkens Blaetz, Megan Sutter, Cara Sutter Bazzell, and Derek Sutter; great-grandchildren, Maddie Mehrkens, Lauren Mehrkens, Alex Blaetz, Andrea Mehrkens, Seth Mehrkens, Samantha Mehrkens, Emmie Blaetz, and Blake Bazzell.
Maurice was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

He farmed in the Fairbury area, owned and operated the Grey Goose in Fairbury, worked in maintenance at the fairgrounds, and was a seed dealer for Burris Seeds.
Maurice was a member of First United Methodist Church in
Fairbury, Masonic Lodge, Arrowhead Lodge, Country Couples, Prairie Central Coop (formerly Farmers Grain Co.) where he was a board member, and currently was a member of the zoning board for the City of Fairbury.

Maurice loved woodworking, picture framing and fishing.
He loved God, life, family and friends.

Memorials may be made to SELCAS, Fairbury Fire Department, or Brian J. Munz Safety Complex.
