Colfax - Maynard Wayne Schleeter, 92, of Colfax, passed away at 7:37pm, June 7, 2014 at OSF "Richard L. Owen" Hospice Home, Peoria.
Funeral will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, June 12, 2014 at St. John Lutheran Church, Anchor. The Reverend Stephen Goodwin will be officiating. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.
Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax is in charge of arrangements.
Maynard was born May 15, 1922 in Anchor, IL, the son of Albert and Anna (Hinrichsen) Schleeter. He married Shirley Cumpston on March 14, 1943. She survives.
He is also survived by his son, Philip (LaVonne) Schleeter of Peoria, IL; 2 grandsons, Dr. Thomas (Diane) Schleeter of Carmel, IN, and Timothy (Molly) Schleeter of Glen Ellyn, IL; 5 great grandchildren, Sarah, Ryan, Samantha, Madelyn, and Samuel; 1 niece, Leann (Humphrey) Bredberg and 1 nephew, Mark Humphrey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Faye (Schleeter) Humphrey.
Maynard and Shirley were married 71 years and he took great pride and enjoyment in his family.
He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Anchor where he was baptized, confirmed, and married. He graduated from Anchor High School in 1940 and retired from farming in 1988.
Maynard enjoyed all sports, especially baseball, golf, and bowling. He was a player/manager for the Anchor Baseball team in the Corn Belt Sunday Afternoon League during the late 40's and 50's and played softball for the St. John's Lutheran team. He was the Senior State Bowling Champion in singles, doubles, and all events in 1995. Later that year he represented Illinois at the national tournament in Reno, NV.
He was a Director of the Board for Anchor State Bank for 45 years and served two terms on the St. John's Lutheran Church Council and three years as the Financial Secretary. He was also a member of the St. John's Brotherhood.
