Melvin D. Ringenberg, 83 of Chenoa, passed away at 12:04 am, Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Chenoa United Methodist Church, Chenoa with Pastor Robb McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in Chenoa Cemetery, Chenoa with military rites conducted by the VFW and American Legion Posts of Chenoa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, 10 to 11 am Saturday also at the Church.
Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa is in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests memorials be directed to Chenoa United Methodist Church, Chenoa, BroMenn Hospice or Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa.
Melvin was born February 6, 1927 in Bloomington the son of Levi and Julia (Litwiller) Ringenberg. He married Joyce M. Masso on August 14, 1947 in Chenoa. She survives in Chenoa.
Other survivors include four children; David R. (Chris) Ringenberg, Santee, CA; Frederick (Geri) Ringenberg, Rushville, IL; Robin (Steve) Tatum and Julie Ringenberg both of Pontiac, IL; one sister, Ruth Maricle, Morris, NY; six grandchildren, David A. (Linda) Ringenberg, Ann Marie (Reid) Smiley, Amanda (Kevin) Allen, Erik Tatum, Jordan Ringenberg, Danielle Ringenberg and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Merle, Lloyd & Marvin Ringenberg, one sister, Beaulah Swaner and two great granddaughters, Hannah Joy Ringenberg and Grayson Allen.
Melvin served our country in the US Navy during WWII and was later employed at Gardner Sales and Service Inc., Pontiac for 37 years. He was a member of Chenoa United Methodist Church, Chenoa, VFW Post #8350 and American Legion Post #234 both of Chenoa. He served on the Chenoa Township Board, Chenoa Historical Society and was the Sexton for Chenoa Cemetery for many years where he helped create a Veterans Memorial Brick Pathway located in the cemetery.
