Michael Ray Maurer, 67, Towanda, died at 7:50 pm Sunday, February 9, 2020 at his residence in Towanda.

His memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, February 14, 2020 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  Burial will be in Strawn Cemetery at a later date.  Memorials may be made to the Baby Fold, Normal.

Michael was born January 10, 1953 in Fairbury the son of Willis R. and Rita Somers Maurer.

Survivors include his mother, Rita Maurer, Fairbury, one son, William (Becky Bradford) Maurer, Normal, stepdaughter, Bayia Bradshaw, Bloomington, three grandchildren, his wife for 37 years, Leisa Maurer, Bloomington, and his siblings, Mark (Mary) Maurer, Strawn, Mary (David Voigts) Vaughan, Bloomington, Patricia Wilkey, Dwight, Joe (Sherri) Maurer, Rantoul, Lori (Gregg) Jacobs, Bloomington, Beth (Larry) Nolan, Bloomington.

He is preceded in death by his father and a brother-in-law.

Michael was a graduate of Illinois State University, Normal where he received a bachelor of science degree.  He dedicated his life to helping children with special needs having worked at the Baby Fold, Normal for 13 years.
