Obituary
Mildred O. Bates, 85 of Colfax formerly of Little Rock, AR passed away at 3:07 pm, Friday, May 14, 2010 at Heritage Manor, Colfax.
The family will hold a private graveside service in Wiley Cemetery, Colfax with Chaplain Ed Wright officiating. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax has charge of services.
Mildred was born August 24, 1924 in Jacksonville, FL the daughter of Gordon and Flora (Blevins) Hancock. She married Leland Troy Bates Jr. on December 8, 1943 in McAllen, TX. He passed away January 10, 2005.
Survivors include her four children; Col. John (Stephanie) Bates, Kailua, HI, Pat Bates, Cedarville, OH, Carolyn (Mike) Short, St. Joseph, MI, Becky (Bob) Crego, Colfax, five grandsons; Ryan (Kaci)Ayres, Andy (Ruth) Ayres, Joshua Bates, J.R. Crego, David Crego, and seven great grandchildren, Hannah, Stephanie and Sam Ayres, Tyler Ayres, Joshua, Taylar and Justin Sinyard.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother; Royce Hancock.
In light of spiritual support and comfort of the Bickford House, Bloomington Chaplains the family suggests that memorials be directed to Marketplace Chaplains USA, 2001 West Plano Parkway, Suite 3200, Plano, TX 75075.
Mildred volunteered as a Sky Patrol Watchman during WWII. She was a Christian of the Baptist faith known for her sweet giving spirit which will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
