Obituary
Mildred Louise Erdman, 88, Chenoa died at 7:52 pm Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chenoa with the Rev. Jerry Koch and Rev. August Lubkeman officiating. Inurnment will be in Chenoa Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday also at the church. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be given to Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community or to the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church both in Chenoa.
Mrs. Erdman was born May 17, 1923 in Palmyra, IL the daughter of Albert and Verna (Bramley) Smith. She moved to Chenoa in August of 1945 and married Verne W. Erdman on June 8, 1946 at Central Christian Church, Decatur, IL. They remained loving companions and took care of each other until her passing.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, four sons: William (Jan) Erdman, Webster Groves, MO, Richard (Merline) Erdman, Sterling, IL, James (Susan) Erdman, Chenoa, IL, Steven (Gina) Erdman, Barrington Hills, IL; thirteen grandchildren, Nat and Maggie Erdman, Amanda Erdman, Corinne (Jarod) Nye, David Erdman, Michael (Danielle) Erdman, Katie Erdman, Sam, Grace, Charlie, Anna, Claire and Jack Erdman; two great grandchildren, Connor and Spencer Nye.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Elizabeth Grady, and her niece Margaret Juran.
She graduated from Palmyra High School, Milliken University, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She taught Home Economics at Chenoa High School for over twenty years, taking time off to raise her four sons. She actively farmed with her husband throughout their married life. She was a member of the Chenoa Arts and Travels Club, Chenoa Women's Club, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Chenoa, and a member of the choir for over 50 years.
Mrs. Erdman lived in rural Chenoa from 1946-1975 at which time they moved to their Lake Bloomington home where they resided until the fall of 2010. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, playing cards, playing bridge, gardening, traveling with her husband, and many family trips to the beach. She was known for her excellent cooking, especially her "Grannie rolls", served at every family gathering.
She was a remarkable woman who led a full and love filled life.
