Fairbury – Mildred Newnam, 94, of Fairbury, passed away at 8:50am, November 6, 2012 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 11:00am at Fairbury United Methodist Church. Pastor Steven Livengood will be officiating. Inurnment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.
Friends may greet the family, one hour prior to the services at the church.
Memorials may be made to Fairbury United Methodist Church, Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Brian Munz Safety Complex or South Eastern Livingston County Ambulance Service.
Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury will be in charge of arrangements.
Mildred was born July 20, 1918 in Pontiac the daughter of Louis David and Sadie May Boyd Shane.
She married J. Wayne Newnam on March 14, 1942 in Pontiac. He died August 16, 1986.
Surviving are her children; Elaine (Wade) Nystrom of Altona, Karilyn Newnam of Urbana, Stan (Kathy) Newnam of Mount Vernon, and Elsie (David) Casteel of Great Fall, MT; grandchildren, Susan (Dan) Bohn of Rockton, Joyce (Chris) Fridlund of Warrenville, Kyle (Bobbie) Newnam of Clinton, Tanya (Mike) McCarty of Muscatine, IA, Jennifer (Spencer) Morgan of Gillette, WY, and Jason Casteel of Spokane, WA; great-grandchildren, Adam and Casey Bohn, Jacob and baby girl due in March Fridlund, Ted Newnam, Katie Franker, Dalanie, Keaton, Caitlyn, Brayden, Ryder, Abram, and Carys Morgan, and Kaidence Casteel.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter Shirley Haiflich, and one infant son John Wayne Newnam.
She was a member of Fairbury United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Cheerful Givers, and Belle Prairie Home Extension. Mildred was also past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge.
Mildred loved to cook and shared her talent by cooking at the Grey Goose in Fairbury. She also taught in country schools, was a homemaker, and farmed with her husband in the Fairbury area for most of their married life.
She was a loving Mother and derived much enjoyment from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
