Obituary
Miriam Leona Mehrkens, 87, Pontiac and formerly of Fairbury passed away at 4:00 am Friday, January 29, 2010 at OSF St. James-John Albrecht Medical Center, Pontiac.
Funeral services will be 2:30 pm Monday, February 1, 2010 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with the Rev. Ray Owens officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:30 pm Monday at the memorial home. The family suggests memorials be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
Mrs. Mehrkens was born January 6, 1923 in Fairbury, IL the daughter of Henry and Anna Meister Leonhardt. She married John Mehrkens Jr. on June 6, 1941 in Fairbury. He died on January 11, 1984.
Surviving are her four sons: John "J.D." Mehrkens, Bloomington, Joseph (Peggy) Mehrkens, Pontiac, Paul (Pam) Mehrkens, Crystal City, FL, Michael (Darla) Mehrkens, Roanoke, Virginia, two sisters, Arlene (Earl) Kilgus, Remington, IN, Lorene Schieler, Francesville, IN, ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by two half brothers and two half sisters.
Mrs. Mehrkens had attended the Apostolic Christian Church in Fairbury. She had also worked as a lab technician at Fairbury Hospital for many years.
