Fairbury – Orel Powell Bounds, 98, of Fairbury, passed away at 2:00am, April 5, 2015 at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.
Funeral will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, April 10, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, Fairbury. Rev. Floyd Blackard will be officiating.
Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5-7:00pm, Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Fairbury or Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.
Orel was born on November 28, 1916 in Straw, KY and was the daughter of George and Dehlia (Smith) Powell. She graduated from Anchor High School in 1934. She married Olen Bounds on March 13, 1937 at the Park Methodist Church in Bloomington. Olen died June 5, 2003.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen Wolff of Anthem, AZ; JoAnn (Steve) Miles of Cooksville; two sons, Edward (Donna) Bounds, Pontiac; and Thomas (Jane) Bounds of Forrest. Ten grandchildren, Brian (Becky) Bounds, Jennifer (Dave) Komar, Clint (Tawnya) Bounds, Scott (Selma) Bounds, Corrin (Dave) Bratcher, Lance (Heather) Bounds, Nicolle (Troy) Bounds-Beal, Rod (Michele) Wolff, Greg (Leslie) Wolff and Shane Miles; 17 great-grandchildren.
Orel was one of George and Dehlia Powell's 12 children. Her siblings have preceded her in death. They are William, Dorothy Preddy, Elza Powell, Dora Scurlock, Donie Frank, Erma Ferguson, Pauline Bond, Ernest, Chester, Mae Eisle and Leona, who died when she was two years old. Orel was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tammy Miles.
Orel spent most of her life on the farm but worked for 22 years in nursing at Fox Center, Dwight, Fairbury Hospital and Fairview Haven.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Fairbury, Rebeckahs' and Forrest Junior Women's Club.
Orel enjoyed family and traveling in their motor home to Florida and Arizona. She loved her family and friends and always enjoyed visiting and had a smile for everyone.
