Strawn: Otis M. Wessels, 81, of Strawn, died at 7:05 am, Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Gibson Area Hospital, Gibson City, IL.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm, Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Monday, July 7, 2008 at United Methodist Church of Cropsey, with Pastor Paulette Cott officiating the service. Burial will follow in Strawn Cemetery, Strawn, IL.
Mr. Wessels was born January 19, 1927 in rural Fairbury, the son of John F. and Viola (Knoll) Wessels. He married Gladys Ruth Adam on February 22, 1953 in Sibley, IL. She survives in Fairbury.
Other survivors include son; David (Marlys) Wessels, Decatur, IL daughter; Linda (Philip) Corban, Pontiac, IL, son; Doug (Dorothy) Wessels, Forrest, one sister; Maxine Dassow, Chatsworth, IL, six grandchildren; Katrina Jo Wessels, Decatur, IL, Jenifer Corban, Warrensburg, IL, Michael Corban, Pontiac, IL, Danny, Rachael and Mitchell Wessels all of Forrest, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Wessels attended Walton School in Fairbury through the 4th grade moving with his family in 1935 to Pontiac Twp. where he attended one room Jordan Country School through the 8th grade and graduated from Pontiac Twp. High School in 1944. He served in the US Army-Air force from 1945 – 1946 after which he farmed west of Pontiac, moving to Fayette Twp. in 1955.
Otis was a member of United Methodist Church of Strawn then Cropsey. From 1947 he was a member of Livingston County Farm Bureau.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the United Methodist Church of Cropsey or to the charity of donor's choice.
