Paul Martin, 84, of Burt Village, Meadows Mennonite Retirement Center, Rural Chenoa, died July 31, 2006 at Bromenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.
Mr. Martin was born August 11, 1921, in Chenoa to Ralph K. and Zylpha (Vermilyea) Martin. He married Ruth Dunham, Aug. 17, 1945 in Bloomington, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Dennis (Bonnie) Martin, Glenview, Douglas (Laurie) Martin, Bonney Lake, Washington and David (Cindy) Martin, Bow, New Hampshire.
One sister, Hazel Mitchell, Joliet, and one brother, Harry Martin, Chenoa, and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Regenold and three brothers, Arthur, William and James Martin.
Mr. Martin was a graduate of Chenoa High School, Class of 1940. He was a lifetime member of the International Union of Operation Engineers Local #150.
He had served in the United States Army during WW II in the 381st Infantry Regiment, 96th division in the Pacific Theater serving in the Philippians and Okinawa. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his service. He was also a charter and lifetime member of the Chenoa VFW Post # 8350, and a member of the VFW America.
He was a member of the Youngtown United Methodist Church, Youngtown, AZ and a former member of the Chenoa United Methodist Church. Paul's hobbies were rock collecting and polishing, or Lapidary and silver smiting He also liked to work with his hands and was a handyman. He was also a member of the NRA.
Mr. Martin and his wife, Ruth were both born and raised in Chenoa. They resided in Chenoa until his retirement in 1979. They moved to Sun City, AZ. for 29years and recently moved back to Burt Village of the Meadows Mennonite Retirement Center, Chenoa.
Inurnment will be a private family service on Thursday Aug. 3, 2006 at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006 from 10:00 to 12:00 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home in Chenoa. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 12:00 noon at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa.
