Fairbury: Paul O. Sohn, 94 of Fairbury passed away at 10:10 pm, Friday, September 30, 2016 at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury. Mr. Sohn was born October 5, 1921 in Forrest, IL; the son of Phillip D. and Margaret Marie (Aellig) Sohn. He married Betty Baer on December 7, 1946 in Peoria, IL. She passed away in 1998. He later married Anna Eileen Paternoster on September 8, 1999 in Venice, FL. She survives in Fairbury. One sister, Phyllis Alport of Fort Myers, FL, passed away in 2015. Survived by two sons, PD (Bonnie) Sohn of Conroe, TX; Dennis (Cheryl) Sohn of East Peoria, IL; one daughter, Paula (David) Cassel of Montgomery, TX; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Paul was a graduate of Forrest High School and later served our country as a pilot flight instructor for the B-17 and B-25 in the US Army Air Corp during WWII. He was employed by Caterpillar Inc., traveling the World as a parts specialist for CAT, retiring after 36 years. He then worked for Worthington Air Compressor Corporation for 5 years overseeing a new domestic parts distribution center in Memphis, TN, retiring to Venice, FL, and then moving to Fairbury in 2002. Paul enjoyed a full life and attended the Presbyterian Church and was a believer in Christ. Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. A visitation with the family will be 10 to 11 am, one hour prior to his service on Saturday also at the funeral home in Fairbury. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury. The family wants to thank the staff at Fairview Haven for their care and compassion for Paul during his time with him. It gave him a quality of life that he really appreciated.
