Fairbury – R. James Rathbun, 85, of Fairbury, passed away at 8:30 pm, Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at his residence.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, January 12, 2013 at St. John's Catholic Church, Fairbury. Fr. Scott Archer will be officiating.
Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Church Cemetery, Fairbury.
Visitation will be held from 4-7:00pm, Friday, January 11, 2013 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury, with rosary being recited at 3:30pm.
The family suggests memorials may be made to St. John's Catholic Church, Fairbury
James was born February 7, 1927, in Cornell the son of Frank and Isabelle Harrington Rathbun.
He first married Shirley Bryant on July 12, 1958 in Fairbury. She died June 24, 1999.
He then married Mary Nimbler on
May 1, 2004. She survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Tim (Julie) Rathbun of Pekin, Tom Rathbun of Fairbury, Terry (Penny) Rathbun of Bloomington, and Mark (Dora) Rathbun of Muscatine, IA; daughter, Teresa Palen of Forrest; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Frances Morris of Champaign, Mary Ann Wenger of Fairbury, and Joanne Paul of San Diego, CA; and one brother, Duane Rathbun of Harrisburg.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Myra Isabelle, and sister Margaret Claudon.
Jim was a lifelong farmer in the Livingston and McLean County area.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Fairbury and past member of the Knights of Columbus.
