Chenoa: Richard E. "Gene" Schopp, of Colfax formerly of Chenoa, died at 2:00 am, Thursday, November 23, 2006 at Heritage Manor, Colfax, IL.
Mr. Schopp was born April 18, 1927 in Chenoa, the seventh child of nine, a son to Louis and Mary (Dougherty) Schopp. He enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17 and served on the USS Intrepid during WWII. He was employed by the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier in rural as well as the City of Chenoa.
He Married Dorothy Ellis on May 8, 1948 in Chenoa. She survives in Colfax, Heritage Manor.
Also surviving are one son; Bill Schopp, Fairbury, two daughters; Dorothy (Larry) Harms and Carol Ann (Michael) Howard both of Chenoa, one brother; John A. (Marilyn) Schopp also of Chenoa and six grandchildren.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 pm, Sunday, November 26, 2006 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa. With a rosary to be recited at 7 pm following the visitation.
His funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, November 27, 2006 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chenoa, burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery in rural Chenoa with Father Carl LoPresti officiating the service.
His parents, 3 brothers and 4 sisters preceded him in death.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chenoa, IL.
Gene was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chenoa. He was best known for his quick wit and sense of humor and for the many years of carrying the mail to the residents of the Chenoa area.
