Chenoa – Richard D. Schweighart, 80, of Chenoa, passed away at 4:38pm, June 25, 2012 at Meadows Retirement Community, Chenoa.
Cremation has been accorded.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, June 30, 2012 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chenoa. Fr. Carl LoPresti will be officiating.
Memorials may be made to Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa.
Richard was born September 28, 1931 in Bement the son of Wilbur and Josephine Sullivan Schweighart.
He married Elizabeth Fowlow on February 14, 1953 in Newfoundland, Canada. She survives in Chenoa.
Also surviving are two daughters, Deborah (Dwayne) Garrett of Round Rock, TX and Katy (John) Stuckemeyer of Cedar Park, TX; one son, Michael Schweighart of Show Low, AZ; grandchildren, Denise (Andrew) Beachum of Round Rock, TX, Danielle (Travis) Dedrick of Nashville, TN, Jack Stuckemeyer and Jessica Stuckemeyer both of Cedar Park, TX; great grandchildren, Declan and Cormac Beachum and Cameron Dedrick; two brothers, Gerald J. (Kim) Schweighart of Champaign and John W. (Johannah) Schweighart of Camargo; sister-in-law, Sandra Schweighart of Monticello; and several nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
Richard graduated in 1949 from Champaign High School he then joined the United States Navy. He was a veteran of the United States Navy after serving for 3 years and 10 months.
He was a superintendent of several stores with Hornsby's and also worked for Truck Stops of America.
Richard was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chenoa and the Moose Lodge.
He was president of Chamber of Commerce and President of the High School Board of Education in Morris.
Richard loved all sports. He followed the Brooklyn Dodgers, the White Sox, the Bears and Illini Basketball. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, pinochle, bridge and traveling.
