Obituary
Richard Earl Shomaker, 73, of Bloomington died at 11:00 pm Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax with the Rev. Dan Jassman officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Bloomington with full military rites accorded by the Davis-Kerber American Legion, Colfax. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax. The family suggests memorials be given to the Community Cancer Center, Normal or the Richard Shomaker memorial fund.
Mr. Shomaker was born, June 19, 1935 in Chicago, IL the son of Earl and Velma Butler Shoemaker. He married Patsy Lee Jenkins in November of 1958. In 1988 he married Rosemary O'Brien in Bloomington. She died in August of 2000.
Surviving is one daughter, Lori (Michael) Kleppin, Thomasboro, IL; two sons, Troy Shomaker, Colfax, Stacey Shomaker, Urbana; one step daughter, Becky O'Brien, Bloomington; two grandchildren, Ashley (Nik) Hall and Connor Kleppin, three step grandchildren, Bethany, Derrick, and Brandon, and one great grandson, Samuel Hall.
Also surviving is one sister, Elaine (Eugene) Grosse, Colfax, a twin brother, Ronald (Ella Mae) Shoemaker, Colfax and a brother, Gary (Lisa) Shoemaker, Morton.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Scott Shomaker, and a brother, Dale Shoemaker.
Mr. Shomaker was a 1954 graduate of Octavia High School, Colfax. He served in the US Air force from June 21, 1954 to December 10, 1957. He later worked as a supervisor for forty years at Eureka Williams Company, Bloomington retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Davis-Kerber American Legion, Post 653, Colfax.
