Fairbury- Robert Eldon Askew, 91, of Fairbury, passed away July 28, 2010 at Fairview Haven Nursing Home, Fairbury.

Funeral will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 10:00am at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with Pastor Charles McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery, Pontiac.

Visitation will be from 6-8:00pm on Friday, July 30, 2010 also at the funeral home.

Eldon was born November 25, 1918 in Pontiac the son of Walter Byron and Carrie Martha Ewing Askew.
He married Elizabeth Carter on November 8, 1941 in Pontiac. She died November 15, 2009 in Fairbury.

Surviving are his children, Betty Joan (Roger) Wilson of Lafayette, IN and Eldon Wayne (Sharon) Askew of Salt Lake City, UT; four grandchildren, Michael Wilson of Bloomington, Tammy Olson of Des Moines, IA, Rebecca Askew of Encinitas, CA and Jennifer Askew of Alameda, CA; four great-grandchildren, Peyton, Jacob, Sydney and Taylan.

Eldon attended school in Pontiac and started farming with his father near Pontiac in 1934 and later moving to an Avoca township farm northwest of Fairbury in 1937. He married Dora Elizabeth Carter on November 8, 1941 in Pontiac, who preceded him in death in 2009. He continued farming until retiring in 2002, having enjoyed 68 years of farming. He also worked at Fairbury Water Works from 1992 until 2006. He was a member of the Fairbury United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau and the Avoca Betterment Club.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to Fairview Haven Nursing Home.
