Robert Bruce Barnes, 91, a resident of Asta Care Center, Toluca and formerly of Fairbury died at 10:28 pm Sunday, March 13, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital, Streator.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with the Rev. Steven Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury. Visitation will be 9:00 to 10:45 am Saturday at the memorial home.
Mr. Barnes was born July 28, 1919 in Indian Grove Twp., Livingston County, IL the son of William Benjamin and Neva Martin Barnes. He married Genevieve Marie Fienhold on October 20, 1940 in Pontiac, IL. She died on November 6, 2009.
Surviving are one daughter, Alice Marie Rolph, Goshen, IN, two sons, Bruce Eugene (Marj) Barnes, Fairbury, IL, William Duane (Evic) Barnes, Hudson, IL, nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by one grandson, Darrin Benjamin Barnes and one brother, Homer Barnes.
Mr. Barnes was a 1936 graduate of Fairbury-Cropsey High School. He farmed south of Fairbury for many years retiring in 1985. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Fairbury, a 50+ year member of the IOOF Lodge #290, he belonged to the Lions Club and served on the Farmers Grain board of directors for over 20 years.
The family suggests memorials be given to the First Baptist Church or the Dominy Memorial Library, both in Fairbury.
