Fairbury – Roger G. Scherr, 74, of Fairbury, passed away at 5:50pm, Thursday, February 1, 2024, at his residence in rural Fairbury.

Funeral services will be 10 am, Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at First United Methodist Church of Fairbury with Pastor Paul Wier officiating. Burial will follow in Cropsey Cemetery, Cropsey, IL.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 pm, Monday, February 5, 2024, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and one hour prior to the service at the church in Fairbury on Tuesday. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to First United Methodist Church of Fairbury, 200 East Maple St. Fairbury, IL  61739 or Cropsey Area Community Fund, c/o Cindy Helmers, #3 Oak Grove Rd., Fairbury, IL 61739 or the charity of the donor's choice.

Mr. Scherr was born September 6, 1949 in Fairbury the son of Charles E. and Elda Mae (Elliott) Scherr.  He married Marcia Fagot on December 21, 1969 in Fairbury.  His wife, Marcia survives in rural Fairbury.

Other survivors include his son, Brent Scherr of Fairbury; one sister, Linda (Chuck) Kuhn of Peoria; brother in-law, Paul (Mary) Flint of Aledo; and sister in-law, Trudy Fagot of Fairbury.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Dane Michael Scherr on April 5, 2006.

Roger was a 1967 graduate of Fairbury-Cropsey High School. He then went on to graduate from Danville Jr. College with an Agriculture Mechanics degree.  He attended ISU in Normal for one year  before being drafted into the United States Army.

From a very early age, Roger knew he wanted to be a farmer, during which he accomplished a 50-year career as the fourth generation on the homesteaded land. He served our country in the US Army; upon his return, he started farming in January of 1973.

He served 40 years on the Belle Prairie Township Board, 9 years as clerk and 31 as a trustee. He also served one 4 year term on the Prairie Central School Board. He was a 60 year member of the First United Methodist Church of Fairbury.

Gentiva Hospice helped Roger fight a heroic battle, but Stage IV melanoma won the war.  Rest in Peace, Roger.
