Roger W. Wessels, 77, of Fairbury passed away at 4:00 am, Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Good Samaritan Home, Pontiac.

A graveside service will be at 11 am, Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury; with Pastor Dan Robertson officiating.  Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Good Samaritan Home, 1225 S Ewing Dr.. Pontiac, IL 61764.

Roger was born December 30, 1940 in Fairbury; the only son of Alfred and Bertha (Downs) Wessels. He grew up on the family farm in Fairbury.  His parents preceded him in death.

He is survived by many cousins on both sides of the Wessels and Downs families, his caregivers; Dale Wessels, John Haley, Judith Lawless Pulido, Erika Hepner and their families.  Roger also leaves behind his unconditionally loving family of 7 years at Good Samaritan Home in Pontiac.

Roger was a lifelong farmer and he had a special ability to engineer and fabricate most anything to suit his needs. He had a passion for steam engines, past farming practices and raising Shire Horses.

Roger was a member of American Shire Horse Association, American Corn Growers Association, The Chicago Farmers Association and Old Threshers of Mt. Pleasant, IA.
