Shirley A. Payne, 80 of Fairbury, passed away at 7:42 pm, Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Home, Pontiac.
Cremation rites have been accorded with a memorial service at 2 pm, Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church of Fairbury; with Pastor Dan Robertson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to her service on Saturday from 1:00 to 1:45 pm, also at the church in Fairbury.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church of Fairbury. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of services.
Shirley was born March 1, 1937 in rural Fairbury, the daughter of Earl and Mayme (Hieronymus) Payne. Her parents, two sisters, Lois Steidinger and Bernadine Payne, two brother in-laws, Lloyd Wells, Carl Wayne Steidinger and great nephew, Daniel Steidinger preceded her in death.
Survivors include one sister, Marilyn Wells, one brother, Howard (Maxine) Payne both of Fairbury; nieces and nephews, Janet (Steve) Veomett of Hawaii; Judy Wells, Connie (Dale) Maley, John Payne, Steve (Kelly) Payne all of Fairbury; Robert (Carol) Steidinger of Missouri; Bryan (Paula) Steidinger of Strawn; Ronald (Debbie) Steidinger of Forrest; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Shirley was a 1955 graduate of Fairbury-Cropsey high school and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fairbury where she served as a Deacon. She also served as deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years in West Allis, WI.
Shirley enjoyed reading and spent many hours reading to her 3 nieces and 5 nephews when they were young. She loved to travel, especially her multiple trips to Hawaii. Shirley enjoyed all kinds of crafts and was a talented painter. She crocheted afghans for every family member and hats for all the babies in the family.
She loved to laugh and have a good time. Her sense of humor and unselfish heart will be missed by her family and all who knew and loved her including her many friends and staff members at The Pointe, Pontiac.
