Obituary

Shirley Lois (Cumpston) Schleeter, 93, formerly of Colfax, passed away at 8:45 p.m. Friday (May 6, 2016) at Liberty Village Care Center, Peoria.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2016, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor. The Rev. Stephen Goodwin will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax, is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley was born November 9, 1922 in Cropsey, IL, the daughter of Clarence and Lucy (Huston) Cumpston. She married Maynard Schleeter on March 14, 1943, he passed away on June 7, 2014.

She is survived by her son, Philip (LaVonne) Schleeter of Peoria, IL; grandsons Dr. Thomas (Diane) Schleeter of Carmel, IN and Timothy (Molly) Schleeter of Glen Ellyn, IL; five great grandchildren Sarah, Ryan, Samantha, Madelyn and Samuel; sister Norma (Donald) (Cumpston) Bielfeldt; brothers Clarence "Warren" (Shirley) Cumpston and Charles "Jimmy" (Shirley) Cumpston; and 20 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters Audrey (Cumpston) Bielfeldt and Dorothy (Cumpston) March; a brother Kenneth Cumpston; and a nephew Eric Cumpston.

She graduated from Anchor High School in 1940 and worked at the Anchor Post Office, Illinois Bell and Wichmann's Hardware prior to her marriage when she became a farm wife. Maynard and Shirley were married 71 years. She received great joy from her family and friends.

Shirley was a former member of the United Brethren Church in Anchor and became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Anchor when she
married. She was very active at St. John's in the Women's Dorcas.

She enjoyed crocheting and sewing and was known for her pies and the scores of crocheted baby sweaters that she and other Dorcas members made for mission projects. She was a Sunday School teacher; a member of the Fairview Friendship Club; the Martin Township Library Book Club; and the Blue Mound Home Bureau.

Memorials may be made to her church or the Eastern McLean County Ambulance Association.
