Obituary

Foosland – Sue Ellen Fairfield, 84, of Foosland, passed away at 5:38pm, December 7, 2017, at her home.

Cremation has been accorded and private family services will be held. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Sue was born Sue Ellen Nelson on March 4, 1933. She was born at her family's home in Paxton, Illinois to William and Elizabeth (Patton) Nelson. She joined the family as the youngest child and had three siblings, Sherman, Kathleen, and Carley.

From a young age, Sue had great love and kindness for every animal that crossed her path. She delighted in and cared for many pets throughout her life and was particularly fond of her current dog, Spike.

As a young woman, she met her husband, Don Fairfield, and it was love at first sight. After they married, she moved to rural Fisher and supported and pitched in with her husband's work on the farm. They ran a grain, livestock, and horse farm together. They also did some traveling throughout the country, pursuing their love of Quarter Horse racing.

Sue and Don welcomed four children into their family, Bill, Phil, Greg (Mitzie), and Holly, who brought joy to their lives and kept them on their toes. She also had a special bond with her namesake niece, Karla Sue. Sue was also a Grandmother to four grandchildren, Molly, Bill, Dylan (Angie), and Georgia (David). Sue and Don were great supporters of their grandchildren's activities together and have continued to have a significant role in their lives as adults. To the great happiness of her grandchildren, Sue was known for keeping a kitchen cabinet with candy in it that she shared with her family. She was also a Great-Grandmother to two boys, Asher and Miles.

In addition, Sue made the world's best beef and homemade noodles, red velvet cake, as well as cinnamon pinwheel cookies that were a Christmas treat. Throughout her life, Sue kept a welcoming and casual home where her family could walk in with their boots on to take a break from farming and have a Pepsi or tea with her. Her family will especially cherish those moments with her.

She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family members who will continue to share and remember their favorite memories of her, especially to future generations. Those who would like to donate as a memorial may give to the Alzheimer's Association.
